WIM Club Champs 2014

Happy New Year!

The 2014 Wimborne Club League season concluded with the SOC event at Fritham & Bentley on 7 December. Final 2014 placings are on the club website.

Congratulations to our four champions - Roger Hills, Sue Hands, Sarah Horsler and Darren Whittingham - and to all the 79 WIM members who appear in our league tables.

In spring, Martin Cross was the Senior Men's early leader with Richard Brightman and Roger Hills in close contention. By September it had become a four-man race between Roger, Martin, Chris Branford (last year's winner) and Steven Horsler. The eventual order was Roger in first place followed by Chris second, Steven third and Martin fourth.

The Women's competition was very close until late autumn. Wendy Bullen led the table for much of the year, though always threatened by Sue Hands, Sally Calland and Tamsin Horsler. Ultimately Sue gained a commanding lead with typically impressive performances, and the final order was Sue first, Wendy second, Tamsin third and Sally fourth.

Darren Whittingham was the runaway Junior Boys winner, now tackling Orange courses with gritty determination. Fraser Smith is flying the stratospheric heights of Blue and beyond, thus making no serious challenge this year, but Darren - watch out!

Last year's Junior Girls competition saw a dramatic finish between Sarah and Elizabeth Horsler, with Elizabeth overtaking her sister in the very last event of the season. This year was also close with Elizabeth maintaining an early lead, but Sarah relentlessly swept ahead in the autumn and was a convincing winner. Becky Whittingham, now running Green and improving swiftly, came third.

So, the 2015 Club League season arrives, starting with the WIM Galoppen at Moors Valley on Sunday 11 January. Club League rules will be very similar to 2014 and a list of qualifying League events will be published on the Waffle site asap. You can check which colour corresponds with your age class here. I'll be happy to answer any queries.

We look forward to seeing you. Good luck, everyone!
