Night League Event at Gillingham, 9 February 2018

Planner: Chris Turner      Organiser: Chris Branford

Last night was a Wessex Region Night League event at Gillingham. 41 enthusiastic competitors took part and the highlight of the evening was finding a 3m high Dragon – yes – that is correct – a very large Dragon that had escaped from the Gillingham Carnival a few years ago!

Chris Turner had planned a brilliant score course with 25 controls to find and the challenge was to complete them all in 60 minutes (plus if you wanted to gain bonus points for being under 60 minutes you had to visit the two 50 point controls last). Nobody managed that which was brilliant planning by Chris Turner as that meant that everyone had to make decisions as to what to miss out which makes for an ideal event (one fit young competitor did get 480 points – so not far off).

Everyone was told that they could only have Dragon cake (lovingly made by the Turner family) if they found the Dragon and could come back alive to tell us where it was. Many were shocked to find it and have to fight through flames and smoke to punch the control and then return to tell the tale.  Virtually all the cake was claimed and no competitors were reported missing!

Thanks to Chris Turner for a brilliant evening
