Not the WIM Regional Event at Ocknell!

16 February 2020

Planner: Michelle Spillar, Organiser: Kirsty Staunton, Controller: Ian Sayer(WSX)

Dear Competitor,

Following the cancellation of Sunday's event at Ocknell we have been looking at alternative dates for hosting the event.

Unfortunately the national fixture list is very crowded, and with environmental pressures and forestry agreements only allowing orienteering access to the New Forest for a limited time each year, we have found it impossible to find a slot to reschedule the event during 2020. There are simply no available dates for us in the fixture list that align with the specific access arrangements to Ocknell. Our current intention is therefore to reschedule the event for mid January 2021, which will be our next chance to use the area.

Under these circumstances, we havetaken the decision to refund your entry fees for the event in full and start afresh next year. You will hear from Fabian4 in due course regarding the processing of the refunds.

Our next WIM events are:-
Feb 29th - TrailO ranking event at Thorncombe Wood, Dorchester
Mar2 MapRun event at Verwood
April 18 SEOUL event, Poundbury, Dorchester: an excellent area for urban orienteering on a new map including some newly built areas never used for orienteering before.

Pre-entry is available via Fabian on both the TrailO and the SEOUL events. More details on our website : http://www.wimborne-orienteers.org.uk

We hope to see you at some of these events.

Regards, Wimborne Orienteers

A path on the Yellow & Orange courses!

A rather swollen stream!

Michelle, Kirsty and Ian had issued this statement:

Unfortunately, on safety grounds, we have reluctantly had to take the decision to postpone the event to another day. Our planner, an experienced weather forecaster, states that the ‘current forecast is heavy rain and 60mph gusts on Sunday morning‘ and that all available forecasts, from the Met Office, BBC and the European weather services are agreed on this. Heavy rain is expected for the 24 hours beforehand on land which is still saturated from the storms last weekend, meaning most of the major streams on the area will probably be uncrossable by Sunday as well. There are streams to cross on all the courses. Decisions on when/if we can rearrange the event, and refunds etc will be taken at a later date, but we felt we needed to make and publish the decision to cancel promptly rather than leaving things until the last minute.
