Wanted!!! 'Games Makers' for WOC 2015

In August 2015 the World Orienteering Championships are coming to Scotland and like 'London 2012', the event needs 'Orienteering Games Makers'.

The event is centred round Inverness and integrates into the bi-annual Scottish 6 Days so if you are looking for an activity holiday with a difference this is your chance!

Those with long memories will know that we've done it before. In 1999 I was volunteered to act as WOC Relay Race Day Organiser and assembled an enthusiastic team not only from WIM but also from most SW clubs. Our task was to transform a flat field of stubble near Aviemore into a spectacular assembly arena for 60 relay teams and more than 3000 spectators. It was a truly exciting time and great to work with and meet so many enthusiastic and gifted people as well as experiencing the excitement of competition at the very peak of the Orienteering world.

We did everything from putting out more than1km of Ski fencing, over 2km of tape, building the map exchange structure, creating a small shopping mall as well as parking hundred of cars and organising large numbers of spectators. We worked at times from 5am until it was dark and at the end all agreed that we'd do it again, and now we have a chance to do just that. The organisers are looking for volunteers either as individuals for specialist roles or club groups for more general help so if you like the sound of this get in touch as soon as possible and we'll see what interest there is for WIM to have a role in WOC 2015.
