Mountain Bike Orienteering

With many Wimborne Orienteering Club members off to Scotland to take part in the Scottish 6 Day Event and to Watch the World Orienteering Championships I just write to ask you to note your diaries with the dates for 3 Mountain Bike Orienteering events that Wimborne Orienteers are due to put on at the end of August and in early September. Electronic timing will be used for all e events. Poster attached.

Firstly another Mountain Bike Evening Cycling Event will be staged at Kingston Lacy on Tuesday 18th August. Start times are from 6.30 pm to 7.30 pm when the grounds and gardens will be closed to the public. Parking will be in the main Kingston Lacy car park. There will be a course that is ideal for families and this will be slightly different to the one at the event on Monday 20th July. This event will also count for 2 items  being cycling and map reading that the National Trust are offering under their 50 things to do before you are 11 and a bit. In addition this time there will be a line event of 7.5K (straight line) and this will be ideal for all ages and abilities especially those experienced mountain bikers. Entry for this event is FREE. Planner Chris Branford.

Secondly on Wednesday 26th August a 1 hour score event will be staged at Badbury Rings with start times from 5.30 pm to 7.30 pm. This event is being staged in conjunction with Moors Valley under their Activate Programme and the Kingston Lacy Estate and will also be FREE to enter. The course will be the same as that staged on 1st June when the weather was abysmal and for the few who braved the elements that evening come along and see if you can better your performance. For those who did not make it on 1st June then come along and see if you can collect all 20 controls within the hour. The event will take place around Badbury Rings taking in the Wood and bridleways behind the Rings. Again families are most welcome and medals will be available for all children taking part. This is a mountain bike event and there will be no Foot O on this evening. Planner Trevor Bridle.

Thirdly on Saturday 12th September again in conjunction with Moors Valley under the Activate Programme a Taster event aimed mainly for those new to the sport will be held at Moors Valley Country Park. Start times will be from 10.00 am to 3.00 pm. However there will also be a 1 hour score event taking in both Moors Valley Country Park and North Ringwood Forest for the experienced mountain bikers. Again entry is FREE and  medals will also be given to all children taking part. Planner Trevor Bridle
