On Thursday the 8th November Loders school held a night orienteering competition for the pupils of the school and their family members. We expected about 15 to 20 runners but in fact we got 50 runners. There was 4 groups, group A, B, C and D. We all had to arrive at school at 7.30pm and started at 10 to 8.

1 minute before each group left Mr. Kite gave each pair of runners a map to study. Then after 1 minute he set the groups off in order, group B went first, then C , A then group D. All the runners had a torch so they weren’t in complete darkness.

The thing that was on everyone’s mind was to get a quick time and a lot of points. There were also three bonus controls to be found but were not located on the map. The bonus controls were worth 20 points instead of the normal 10 point controls that were marked on the map. Three of the controls on the map had a piece of cardboard next to them locating one of the three bonus controls that were not on the map.

In each group there was a winner and a runner up. But in group A and D there was a third place because they were a bit bigger than the other groups. The winners from group A were Adam and Tyler with Lottie and Jess runners-up. The winners in group B were Charlie and James with Harry and Frank second. Group C winners were Isla and her dad and Oliver, Alex and Jazz were runners-up. Finally group D winners were Thaisen, Edward and Edward’s dad with Ben and his mum second and Charlotte and her mum third.

With big thanks to the PTFA for when the runners came in, you supplied us with hot chocolate and a big selection of biscuits. It was a very enjoyable night.
